Celine Dion welcomes twins

Canadian “Falling Into You” singer Celine Dion has welcomed twin boys, the 42-year-old star giving birth via a caesarean section on Saturday 23 October at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The best-selling performer, who has sold over 200 million albums worldwide, has long spoken of her desire to have more children with former manager/husband René-Charles Angélil (whom she married in 1994). The couple are already parents to nine-year-old son René-Charles, and made headlines back in May 2010 when Dion admitted to suffering a miscarriage. Back in 2000, when the National Enquirer printed a false story of her pregnancy, Dion sued the publication for $20 million – and gave the winning proceeds to charity.

The twin boys, names not yet known, were born premature and will remain in incubators, say doctors. “Celine, Rene and their son Rene-Charles are thrilled,” a representative for the star told People magazine on the weekend. “Celine is resting now and they plan to discuss what to name the boys when she wakes up.” The singer’s doctor, Ronald Ackerman, spoke to the waiting media at a press conference outside the hospital and revealed the boys had a healthy amount of hair. “[Son] René-Charles has been to the hospital to visit his brothers and is just so excited they are here,” Ackerman said.

Dion is, according to US touring giant Pollstar, the best-selling solo touring act of the decade, and the second best-selling touring act of the decade, beaten only by MOR rockers the Dave Matthews Band. Her last release was 2007’s Taking Chances.
